Getting the most out of your ALTIQ™ Rogue MK3 driving lights means understanding how to properly wire the DRL (Daytime Running Light) feature. While the main connections of our Fast Fit wiring harness are plug and play, the DRL wiring must be done manually - here’s how.
Universal Design, Flexible Options
We designed this kit to be universal because every car has different wiring and electrical systems. While we'd love to create a plug-and-play system, the sheer number of different connectors and desired DRL behaviours makes this impossible to cover. With this universal setup, we can cater to every car with three different options depending on the result you're after.
Here's how it works: The key is understanding that the yellow wire on each driving light's breakout plug is the DRL positive connection. The DRLs are already grounded through the main harness, so you only need to connect this yellow wire to a positive source based on how you want the DRLs to behave.
Your three connection options:
-
Parker Connection: DRLs activate when parker lights are on (most popular choice)
-
Ignition Connection: DRLs turn on whenever ignition is on
-
Factory DRL Connection: Connect to existing factory DRL power if your vehicle has them
Step-by-Step Wiring Guide
NB. While this guide has all the steps required to get you going, if you’re unsure about any steps, please contact a qualified auto-electrician to set it up for you.
1. Locate Your Target Wire
Find the wires that connect to your chosen power source. For parker light connection (most common), these are typically located in the headlight assembly or a separate socket connected to the headlight.
2. Verify the Positive Wire
Use a multimeter to identify which wire carries positive power when your chosen system is active. For parker lights, you'll see 12V on that wire when the parkers are on.
3. Prepare the Connection Point
Strip a small section of insulation from the target wire in an accessible location. The yellow DRL wire from the harness will already be pre-stripped for you.
4. Make the Connection
Option 1: Soldering (Recommended)
Solder the yellow DRL wire to the exposed positive wire. Then seal it up with heatshrink tubing or electrical tape. This creates the most reliable connection.
Option 2: Wire Splice
For a tool-free approach, use a quality wire splice connector to tap into the target wire. Strip both wire ends, twist them together, and secure with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing.
5. Test and Secure
Turn on your chosen system (parker lights, ignition, etc.) and verify the DRLs illuminate. Once confirmed, secure all connections away from moving parts and excessive heat sources.
